Sustainability is at the heart of FedEx’s efforts to make something new out of retired courier uniforms.

One of the world’s largest express transportation companies, Federal Express Corporation, is collaborating with Philippine-based NGO Mori Notes to upcycle retired courier uniforms into innovative gifts for customers.

Reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement, FedEx transformed 300 retired shirts into 200 versatile gadget pouches, as well as 200 neck pillows.

“The collaboration with Mori Notes, a Philippines-based NGO renowned for its innovative upcycling projects, aligns with the FedEx mission to connect the world responsibly and resourcefully,”  said FedEx Philippines Managing Director Maribeth Espinosa.

“At FedEx, we are committed to advancing sustainability across our operations and creating opportunities within the communities we serve,” added Espinosa.

FedEx’s upcycling initiatives

FedEx’s upcycling of hundreds of retired shirts aims to promote a circular economy, reduce textile waste, and provide customers with meaningful, sustainable gifts. These gifts are a reflection of FedEx’s dedication to environmental stewardship.

This special collaboration is not a first for FedEx as the company’s upcycling initiatives began in 2020. Previously, these initiatives have transformed 300 old pants and 50 retired shirts into 600 handcrafted journals and 100 handwoven pouches.

Aside from upcycling retired uniforms, FedEx has donated wooden pallets and plastic waste to organizations that repurpose them, which reduces pollution and burden on landfills.

FedEx’s commitment to innovation

In line with its commitment to sustainability, FedEx has been developing innovative digital tools, including the FedEx Ship Manager (FSM), an online shipping tool, and various online import and export declaration tools. These developments aim to reduce paper and energy consumption and improve operational efficiency.

In addition, FedEx has likewise launched a cloud-based carbon emissions reporting tool called the FedEx Sustainability Insights, which gives customers access to information on historical emissions of their shipments within the FedEx network. This data can then be used to make purposeful decisions on their future shipping strategy that align with their own sustainability goals.
