The increase in employment in the industry has been attributed to an increase demand for offshoring work. Here’s what we know about these job opportunities.

It has been revealed that the Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry has been able to add 135,000 jobs this year. Due to this, the industry now has a workforce of 1.7 million employees—according to the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP). 

“We seem to be the first choice in delivering customer experience [due to] our reputation for being able to deliver complex business services, diverse functions across vertical industries,” IBPAP President and CEO Jack Madrid said, according to a report. 

“Our industry has grown from plain vanilla contact center services, to very distinct verticals like banking, financial services, insurance, healthcare management, even creatives,” he added. 

More Job Opportunities for the Industry

While the addition of 135,000 is impressive, providing employment opportunities in the industry does not stop there. In fact, the goal of the industry is to provide an additional 1.1 million jobs. 

However, Madrid notes that while demand is not an issue, such is not the case for supply. This is due to the fact that skills mismatch as well as talent gap remain a concern for the IT-BPM industry. What’s more, the IBPAP President and CEO points out that the current education curriculum needs to be revised. This is so that it can better fit the demands of the industry. 

“The government needs to support this,” Madrid said.

The IT-BPM industry’s goal of providing an additional 1.1 million jobs is welcomed news for the public, particularly those interested to work in the industry.
