Pru Life UK Expands Its Adopt-a-Madrasah Program to More Muslim Communities

Part of its Takaful journey, Pru Life UK’s Adopt-a-Madrasah program was launched in October 2024. 

Leading life insurer Pru Life UK aims to empower more Muslim communities in Mindanao by expanding its Adopt-a-Madrasah program. The program aims to support 1,500 students and teachers in nine madrasahs or Islamic educational institutions.

As part of the program, Adopt-a-Madrasah learning modules will be rolled out in the following areas in Mindanao:

• Cagayan de Oro
• Davao
• Zamboanga

“We are excited to bring the Adopt-a-Madrasah program to more Muslim communities in Mindanao and help more students and teachers appreciate the importance of financial security, technology upskilling, and climate and health preparedness, as part of our sustainability implementation that seeks to deliver real-world impact and long-term resilience,” said Pru Life UK’s Senior Vice President and Chief Legal & Sustainability Officer Atty. Paul Mandal.

What the Adopt-a-Madrasah’s modules will include

The Adopt-a-Madrasah program aims to enhance capacity-building, financial literacy, climate and health awareness to foster resilient communities. In order to achieve this, the modules will include the following:

• Islamic finance and Takaful education – Introducing the teachers and students to Shari’ah-compliant financial services and solutions for financial inclusion. Sharr’ah is a set of Islamic laws that are guides on how to live a moral life.
• Digital upskilling – Equipping the madaris’ teachers with essential technology learning skills, including basic digital literacy and financial technology (fintech) applications, to supplement and enhance their teaching practices
• Climate and health – Educating the teachers and the students about the health and financial impacts of climate change to promote climate adaptation and resilience 
  

Pru Life UK’s Takaful journey

Launched in October 2024, the Adopt-a-Madrasah program is part of Pru Life UK’s Takaful journey. Rooted in the principles of cooperation as well as mutual protection, Takaful functions like a mutual fund wherein eligible participants agree to guarantee each other.

Pru Life UK is the Philippines’ first licensed Takaful operator and has previously announced its partnership with the Al Amanah Islamic Investment Bank of the Philippines (AAIIBP) to help boost financial literacy in Muslim communities in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
