The startup developed a cost-saving solution that reduces environmental impact.

Filipino startup Greentech Ecobooster won the top prize at Shell LiveWire 2025, earning Php1 million in equity-free funding for its fuel-optimization device that improves engine efficiency and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. The startup bagged the award during the final pitch held during Echelon Philippines in September.

Greentech Ecobooster is the brainchild of Rommel Bernardo, a motorcycle enthusiast and sound engineer with a knack for conducting experiments in his garage. After developing and testing more than 100 prototypes, he created a compact fuel optimization device that enhances the combustion efficiency of motor engines. A versatile invention, the Ecobooster can be installed in motorcycles, tricycles, cars, trucks, and even industrial generators, improving engine performance while reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

“It started with the question, ‘How can we make engines run better and cleaner?’ The Ecobooster became that answer, helping drivers save on costs while also reducing environmental impact,” says Rommel.

A Holistic Approach That Prioritizes Sustainability

The Ecobooster is a 3-in-1 carburetor plug-in engineered to deliver measurable results: significant fuel savings, increased engine power, and up to 90% cleaner emissions compared to traditional carburetors. A one-time installation that requires no subscriptions or complex upkeep, it quickly pays for itself by extending engine life, improving fuel efficiency, and reducing environmental impact.

Unlike many solutions that focus solely on performance outcomes, Greentech Ecobooster adopts a holistic approach, prioritizing sustainability throughout the entire product lifecycle, from material sourcing and manufacturing to daily use and end-of-life disposal.

Beyond technological innovation, Greentech Ecobooster is also driving real-world impact at the grassroots. In a pilot program with tricycle drivers in Parañaque, participants reported lower daily fuel costs and enhanced vehicle performance.

The company is now building partnerships with communities and stakeholders to strengthen local impact while laying the groundwork for global scalability. With a patent pending, Greentech Ecobooster aims to serve the world’s top 30 markets efficiently and sustainably.

The pandemic posed early challenges but also opened the door to building a stronger team with Raymund Acedera—a corporate veteran with a background in consumer and tech—joining as Co-Founder and CEO. His leadership further strengthened the team’s discipline and focus, setting the foundation for global success.

A Turning Point for Strategic Growth

Joining Shell LiveWire marked a pivotal moment in Greentech Ecobooster’s growth. Beyond financial support, the program helped refine the team’s vision, provided a strong strategic framework, and connected them with mentors who challenged them to think—and operate—with the mindset of a global startup.

“We came in thinking from the client’s side, but LiveWire challenged us to see things as entrepreneurs, how to pitch, how to scale, and how to deliver value,” Rowena explains. “That shift in mindset was a game changer, and most importantly, Shell Livewire provides the platform for global expansion and even greater impact. “

Greentech Ecobooster is channeling the prize money toward pilot testing in the Philippine market, which involves evaluating system performance, pricing strategies, and potential microfinancing models within a controlled environment ahead of international rollout. Combined with Shell’s mentorship and network support, the program has equipped the startup with a solid platform to test locally while preparing for global expansion.

Shell LiveWire: A Catalyst for Startups

Since its launch in the Philippines in 2020, Shell LiveWire has served as a catalyst for startups championing sustainability and innovation. Now celebrating its 40th year globally, the program continues to empower entrepreneurs across diverse industries, helping them scale solutions that tackle real-world challenges and create lasting impact.
