Canva’s new feature aims to encourage users to embrace AI as an essential creative partner on the platform.

Canva is now the first design platform to deeply embed its creative suite into advanced AI tools such as ChatGPT. The visual communication platform’s two new launches, the deep research connector with ChatGPT and the Canva Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, allows Canva to plug seamlessly into AI assistants and agents.

Pioneering a new era of AI-native design, Canva and its ChatGPT connector and MCP Server allow users to brainstorm, design, and publish with the aid of the AI assistant.

“AI agents and assistants have become indispensable creative partners, yet current workflows require users to manually add context or references, creating complexity,” said Canva GM and Head of Ecosystem Anwar Haneef.

“We’re embedding Canva directly into the AI tools people use every day so they can brainstorm, create, and publish content faster. This is a major step in our vision to make the complex simple and build an all-in-one AI workflow that’s secure and accessible to all,” Haneef added.

Canva Deep Research Connector

Canva’s deep research connector with ChatGPT allows users to simply prompt the chatbot to analyze or refine content across Canva Docs, Presentations, and more. The Canva deep research connector is particularly useful for the following:

  • Business owners – analyzing business reports, summarizing past meeting notes, and exploring growth plans
  • Educators – pulling key points for lesson plans and curriculum, and referencing past learning objectives
  • Marketers – summarizing campaign reports, pulling key messaging from brand guides, and referencing launch plans
  • Sales: analyzing customer feedback, searching for key value propositions or pricing slides, and preparing proposals

Each interaction with ChatGPT is protected by Canva Shield, which assures privacy and security for users.

“Launching the Canva deep research connector means businesses and their employees get faster, better insights because ChatGPT has more context,” said OpenAI Head of Business Products Nate Gonzalez.

“We’re thrilled to work together to bring powerful AI to many of today’s most important workflows,” Gonzalez added.

Canva MCP Server

Canva’s MCP Server, on the other hand, allows any AI assistant to tap directly into the full Canva workspace. This includes the user’s design history as well as the available tools and templates.

Through the Canva MCP Server, AI assistants and agents are able to do the following:

  • Generate any design type, from social posts to presentations, incorporating context from your chat
  • Autofill charts with labeled, formatted data from AI-generated insights
  • Resize and export branded templates, from Presentations to Canva Docs, with on-brand, contextual copy
  • Import PDFs or files directly from a link, no upload needed

With just one click, ChatGPT and Salesforce’s Agentforce integration becomes possible thanks to the MCP Server. Canva’s 240 million users can look forward to even more integrations in the future.

Canva’s Continued AI Innovation

As AI becomes increasingly embedded across industries and platforms, Canva is fully committed to expanding its continuous AI innovation.

The visual communication platform has launched a number of AI-powered tools for its users, such as Canva AI, Canva Code, and AI-powered content creation in Canva Sheets. These tools have helped educators, marketers, creators and more to embrace AI as an essential creative partner.
