This Mobile Application Developed by Teenagers Will Help Detect a Stroke Before it Happens

By tracking a user’s heart rate and blood pressure, Clinivue, a mobile app, helps detect potential signs of atrial fibrillation and intercept stroke and other serious health conditions before they fully develop.

The Business Manual’s GrowthCon PH 2025 introduced the Student Edition of its Startup Pitching Competition in June. The event served as a platform for student entrepreneurs to present their AI-driven businesses to a distinguished panel of industry experts and business leaders.

This year’s grand winner was Clinivue—a mobile heart monitoring application created by sophomore students from Mapua University. The app is designed to make monitoring one’s heart rate and rhythm and other vitals simpler, faster, and budget-friendly.

From Adversity to Innovation

Clinivue’s founder, Kobe Lituanas, was motivated to develop the app after seeing his grandfather suffer through four occurences of stroke. Kobe’s grandfather was later diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm that can lead to heart blood clot and stroke, both serious—and often fatal—health concerns .

Kobe thought that if he could create a mobile app capable of monitoring one’s heart, it could help prevent a stroke and other serious illnesses from even happening. The opportunity came in December 2024, at a tech boot camp in Singapore. Kobe successfully created the prototype for Clinivue with his two startup partners at the time.

“I grew up with my grandfather, and before he had his fourth stroke, he was diagnosed with a heart beating disorder called atrial fibrillation,” recalls Kobe. “It was really hard because we brought him to a diagnostic center where he went through a lot of tests, only to be told by the general practitioner that we should see a cardiologist to interpret those tests. But by that time, he was already critical.”

Developing an AI Framework

Clinivue is designed to make heart monitoring simpler and easier. Placing a finger on a phone’s camera lens triggers the app to measure a user’s heart rate and blood pressure, and detect atrial fibrillation.

Kobe needed to get new partners after his two original co-founders, a Malaysian and a Singaporean, decided that they could no longer continue working on the project. Four other schoolmates from Mapua—three fellow Computer Science students and a Data Science student—joined the team.

While Kobe and his new team have finalized the concept, they have yet to develop the AI framework to bring their vision to life. They are currently in the process of conducting research and data gathering to ensure that their application will be equipped with the needed data to allow their AI model to deliver accurate results for users.

“We’re just trying to navigate this study.  There’s a lot of things that we need to learn.  We’re self-studying and really trying to understand artificial intelligence,” says Kobe.

They hope to finish their data gathering in 2026 and begin pilot testing by the third or fourth quarter of the same year

Better Heart Health for All

While there may be other heart monitoring apps developed abroad, the localized use of data is intended to make Clinivue stand out in the market. By tying up with local stroke rehabilitation centers and other similar clinics, Clinivue hopes to empower such facilities to monitor their patients and consolidate their health records more efficiently.

Kobe envisions Clinivue expanding its reach across the country and servicing patients in rural and remote areas who have limited access to timely medical assistance. By addressing these disparities, Clinivue aims to make healthcare more equitable and accessible to every Filipino.
