TikTok Shop Empowers Entrepreneurs at the National MSME Summit 2024
Proving that TikTok Shop Philippines means business, TikTok’s e-commerce arm joined the National MSME Summit 2024, organized by Go Negosyo and the DTI.
Last July 13, TikTok Shop Philippines, the e-commerce arm of the video-sharing platform TikTok, took part in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Development Week by joining the National MSME Summit 2024. The Summit, which was held at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall, brought together around 1,000 participants from both public and private sector organizations, including SME agencies, business experts, and the academe. Through the event, participants received mentorship from entrepreneurs and businesses like TikTok on how to widen their network, and enhance their skills.
The National MSME Summit 2024 is a partnership with Go Negosyo, and the Department of Trade and Industry-Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development (DTI-BSMED). It is the culminating activity of the MSME Development Week celebration. This year, the summit’s theme is “Innovate to Elevate: Empowering MSMEs for Sustainable Growth.”
During the event, Joey Concepcion, Founder of Go Negosyo, spoke of TikTok’s role in accelerating the growth of businesses through TikTok Shop Philippines. “We are thrilled to partner with TikTok Shop to accelerate the growth of Filipino MSMEs in the digital sphere,” he said. “Through TikTok Shop’s Shoppertainment format, which seamlessly integrates content and commerce, MSMEs are able to reach a nationwide audience to build and grow their business. Together with TikTok Shop, we aim to provide mentorship, share insights, and empower Filipino entrepreneurs to scale and grow their businesses, leading to the growth of a diverse and inclusive Filipino e-commerce industry.”
TikTok Shop Empowers MSMEs
TikTok Shop Philippines contributed to the summit through panel sessions that empowered entrepreneurs by educating them on emerging market trends. Jonah Ople, Category Lead for Fashion, TikTok Shop, participated as a panelist, discussing the pros and cons of traditional versus online market platforms.
Ople talked about TikTok’s role in empowering MSMEs in the digital space. According to Ople, “TikTok Shop is a unique platform where MSMEs can combine marketing and sales efforts seamlessly. Through our ACE Framework—Assortment, Content, and Empowerment—we help businesses optimize their engagement strategies and drive sales. Our goal is to turn engagement into revenue while providing a compelling shopping experience for users.”
The National MSME Summit 2024 proved to be an event not just for empowering entrepreneurs but also for creating partnerships.
“We are a nation of over 7,600 islands, and through digitalization, our MSMEs can showcase and sell their products and services nationwide,” expressed Undersecretary Ma. Cristina Roque of the DTI-MSME Development Group. “We look forward to strengthening our partnership with TikTok Shop to champion our beloved Filipino MSMEs in the digital business landscape.”
