This LGU’s New Partnership Aims to Boost Employability of its Young Residents

The new program will benefit Filipinos aged 18 to 25, as it will equip them with the necessary skills that can land them jobs in the future.

According to the 2020 census, Quezon City’s population is 2,960,048. And since then, that number has already grown, as it is estimated that the population will reach 3,238,343 this year. Despite the growing number of its citizens, the Quezon City local government is doing its best to serve its constituents and its latest partnership is solid proof of it.

As a matter of fact, the Quezon City LGU has partnered with the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) on a program that seeks to boost the employability of the young residents of the city. The program has been named JobsNext.

What is the JobsNext Program?

In partnership with Citi Foundation, the JobsNext program “will provide training to equip Quezon City residents aged 18 to 25 years old with the necessary skills for jobs in the future,” according to a report by ABS-CBN News

The Quezon City LGU has invested PHP 6 million into the program as it shows that it “is committed to investing in the development of our youth,” according to Mayor Joy Belmonte.

“We are committed to providing them with the competencies and skills required to address the changing demands of the future,” she adds.

JobsNext will consist of training programs provided by the following development partners:

  • Adaptive Technology for Rehabilitation, Integration, and Empowerment of Visually Impaired (ATRIEV)
  • Amazon
  • ASEAN Foundation
  • Microsoft

For its part, the Quezon City LGU, particularly the Public Employment Service Office, will be the one to recruit potential JobsNext trainees. These trainees will then be referred to programs that match their chosen skills.

Getting Ready for a New Career

Whether a job seeker is entering the job market for the first time or switching careers, it is important to prepare first before making such an important step. This is so the job seeker has the right skills and experience that can help secure a job.

While the JobsNext program will aim to serve as many of the young Quezon City residents as possible, there are other ways those in the job market can equip themselves with new skills in order to get a new job.

One of which is by taking online courses from websites that offer them. These include Coursera, Udemy, and edX. Those interested to take courses on these websites can choose which ones interest them most. While many courses require a fee, there are those that are free of charge for anyone who wants to take them.

There are likewise many educational and instruction videos available on platforms such as YouTube that can impart knowledge to those interested to learn about specific skills and topics.
