With grand dreams and big ideas in store, newly-appointed president Suki Salvador shares his plans for VOGUE Philippines and NYLON Manila.

Equipped with many years of publishing experience, as well as innate creativity and business acumen, Suki Salvador takes on an even bigger role as the new president of MEGA Global Licensing Inc. (MGLI)—the media and licensing company behind international titles VOGUE Philippines and NYLON Manila.

“Nylon Manila and Vogue Philippines are just two of the many international brands we are bringing into the local market,” explains CEO and Chairman of AGC Power Holdings Corp. (AGC PHC) Archie Carrasco. “Suki brings his 15 years of experience in publishing from One Mega Group (OMG) to ensure the success of the operations of all the media brands under MEGA Global Licensing.”

Finding His Purpose

Armed with a strong drive for excellence and a wealth of publishing experience to back him up, Salvador is the ideal candidate for MGLI’s new president, as he has found the perfect balance between creativity and business. All this, however, comes with an understanding—not just of the business and its day-to-day operations—but also of the people in the industry.

“I would observe the way people spoke, the way people behaved, and the way they reacted to certain situations,” Salvador shares, fondly reminiscing his days growing up. “This lead me to the conclusion that we are all very different, but it also taught me that we are all equally important. [With that], I understood the importance of including everyone despite our varied differences.”

Likewise, the road traveled was a long but fruitful one. Starting out as the protégé of renowned photographer Raymund Isaac, he worked his way up by starring and hosting MEGA Fashion Crew—a platform for scouting and introducing new talents in the industry. Eventually, he became the Creative Director of both Lifestyle Asia and MEGA, then the Vice President of Content and Creatives, and soon after, the President of OMG.

As the new president of MGLI—a prestigious position befitting someone with the qualities of a media pioneer and innovator, he shares that the secret to his success lies in having a sense of purpose. “If you have a purpose—a why—and you adhere to that purpose, profit will come,” he opines.

Plans for NYLON Manila and VOGUE Philippines

With over 30 years in the industry, OMG is truly a force to be reckoned with, especially in the world of fashion and media publishing. All this time, it has, after all, been elevating the lives of Filipinos through meaningful media as the prestige publisher of homegrown media titles.

But with loftier goals set, Salvador thinks that now is the right time to get into international media publishing, starting with Gen Z brand NYLON Manila and VOGUE Philippines, the biggest and most influential media brand in the world—one that is set to debut in the Philippines this September 2022. “There is an element of discovery that is inherent to NYLON Manila and VOGUE Philippines,” Salvador explains.

By bringing a new point of view to the fore, Salvador aims to innovate both NYLON Manila and VOGUE Philippines. As the go-to for pop culture and all things Gen Z, he plans on injecting a creative spin through fanzines, printed annuals, and activations like music festivals, parties, and talks.

On the other hand, VOGUE Philippines will shine the spotlight on Filipino fashion by uplifting the country’s rich culture, diversity, and creative fashion talent as part of his longstanding goal of bringing Filipino to a more global playing field. “This moment is an opportune time to open and re-open businesses and to put the Filipino craft side by side with the rest of the world,” he adds.

On Creating Opportunities and Growing as a Company

Elevating local storytelling and propelling the country’s unique fashion, talent, and culture on a global stage. This is just one of the many goals that Salvador has lined up for MGLI. But who else can do it best, if not for the local talent, influential figures, and thought leaders from the Philippines?

Thus, determined to cast not only fashion and beauty creators, but also people from other professions, like drivers, carpenters, merchandisers, and other support teams, Salvador wishes to diversify the pool of talents for both NYLON Manila and VOGUE Philippines.

“Through excellent media and platforms, we will be able to discover new talents and products which I hope our audience will purchase and consume. It is my goal for our audience to buy from the Philippines, so that fashion, beauty, design, food, and music will have a contribution to our [Gross Domestic Product] GDP and economic growth rate for years to come,” Salvador shares.

Given all this, what can the Philippines expect from MGLI moving forward? “MGLI, through VOGUE Philippines and NYLON Manila, will release daily content that is purposeful, intentional, and beautiful, but more importantly, it will be about content that you actually like,” he says. “Our content will not be nebulous nor will it be difficult to comprehend. It will be accessible with ease.”

Salvador goes on to add, “As a leader, I’ve made it my mission to include everyone and to remove the velvet ropes that separate people. I want to accord everyone an opportunity to be the first in line.”

Truly exciting times are in full steam ahead for Philippine media and publishing under the new presidential leadership of Suki Salvador. Congratulations!
