40 Years of FedEx Philippines: What It Has Delivered and What’s To Come

With four decades of operations in the country, FedEx Philippines looks back at past achievements and looks forward to opportunities for growth.

In 1984, FedEx came to the Philippines, driving advancements in the logistics industry and playing a vital role in elevating local businesses to the global stage. This September 2024, FedEx Philippines marked 40 years of operations in the country–a period of innovation, growth and unwavering commitment to connecting people and possibilities.

“As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, FedEx Philippines continues to deliver innovative solutions that keep pace with the changing needs of local businesses,” said Maribeth Espinosa, managing director of FedEx Philippines. “Our journey in the Philippines is a testament to our dedication to fostering economic growth, empowering Filipino businesses, and making a positive impact on local communities.”

FedEx Philippines: Poised for the Future

Over the past 40 years of operations in the Philippines, FedEx has ensured that goods are shipped through the most efficient networks while delivering the highest quality service.

Today’s customers have unique demands, and the company has evolved through the decades to meet these challenges. Large and heavy freight, cross-border e-commerce products, and customized solutions for businesses are a few of the needs that FedEx has risen to answer, furthering its solutions with automation and digital tools that are essential for streamlining operations.

2024 marks ambitious growth plans for FedEx. In July this year, the company announced plans to expand its Philippine Gateway facility in Clark to more than twice its current size. This expansion characterizes FedEx’s innovation and commitment to excellence.

Delivering Growth for Businesses

Over the decades, FedEx Philippines has adapted to meet the needs of its customers. In 2013, it launched its direct service operations, enabling the company to directly oversee all logistics processes nationwide.

In 2017, FedEx opened service hubs in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig and Clark Pampanga  to reinforce its role as a key logistics solutions provider in the Asia-Pacific region.

In 2021, the company established the FedEx Clark Gateway Facility. This state-of-the-art facility optimized sorting for up to 9,000 parcels per hour and  has a dedicated freight-handling area of 630 square meters to support growing e-commerce demands.

“As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, FedEx Philippines continues to deliver innovative solutions that keep pace with the changing needs of local businesses,” said Espinosa. “Our journey in the Philippines is a testament to our dedication to fostering economic growth, empowering Filipino businesses, and making a positive impact on local communities.”

Through FedEx’s use of advanced technology to maximize operational capacity, enrich customer experience and make supply chains smarter, the company has also advanced freight services and addressed the surging demand for bulk and cold-chain shipments.

Delivering Opportunities for Employees, Impact to Communities

While FedEx Philippines is firmly committed to providing logistics solutions for its customers, it is equally driven by a commitment to its employees and all the communities it is a part of.

For its employees, FedEx is guided by its foundational principle, the PSP (People-Service-Profit) philosophy. FedEx believes that by prioritizing its employees, they are empowered to provide outstanding service, which leads to profitability.

In recognition for FedEx’s efforts, the company won seven awards at the HR Excellence Awards 2024 Philippines last September.

For the communities where FedEx is present, the company has many initiatives through its charitable arm, FedEx Cares.

A prime example of these programs is FedEx Philippines’ three-year collaboration with Zonta Club of Makati and Environs to provide scholarships to 60 women in STEM at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. In addition to the USD35,000 grant, FedEx managers and employees personally provide guidance on job interviews and career development for the program’s recipients.

The company is also dedicated to creating an inclusive workplace through its diversity, equity, inclusion and opportunities (DEI&O) efforts. These efforts have been recognized with multiple awards, including a gold award at the HR Excellence Awards 2022 Philippines for the company’s efforts in “Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion” and “Excellence in HR Communication Strategy”. FedEx was also a recipient of the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) Disability Inclusive Workplace Award.

Throughout FedEx’s 40 years in the country, its journey has been one of innovation, community involvement and excellence. “At FedEx, we are driven by our Purple Promise, to make every FedEx experience outstanding,” shared Espinosa. “As we look to the future, we remain committed to building the network for what’s next for our customers, our employees, and the communities we serve.”
